COBB COUNTY, GA (8/3/2020) – The Cobb County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that left one person dead and another injured on Sunday night. The accident occurred at 10:34 p.m. on the I-285 west ramp to I-75 north.
According to authorities, 26-year-old Laclara Johnson was driving her gray 2020 Honda Accord west on I-285 in the right lane when a 1988 Toyota 4Runner driven by 39-year-old Joseph Costyn was traveling behind here. When Costyn attempted to change lanes to pass the Honda on the left, he struck the left rear bumper of the vehicle.
The impact caused the Honda to hit the guardrail in the emergency lane, while the Toyota rolled several times before coming to a stop on its right side. Costyn died from his injuries at the scene, while Johnson was transported to Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries.
Police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Cobb County Police Department.
