MONTEZUMA, GA (2/20/2020) – A driver and his passenger were killed Thursday afternoon after colliding with a box truck in Macon County. The accident occurred on Georgia 49 near Montezuma at around 1:00 p.m.
The Georgia State Patrol says that Clarence D. Coleman, 22, was driving north on Georgia 49 with his passenger Shantion Deon Seats.
Coleman suddenly crossed the centerline of the highway, lost control, and spun into the path of a truck driving south. The box truck hit the left side of Coleman’s car, splitting it in half.
The box truck flipped over, hit a light pole, and then came to a stop in a ditch. Coleman was ejected from his car.
Emergency responders rushed him to Perry Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His passenger, Shantion Seats, died at the scene of the accident. The condition of the box truck driver is unknown at this time.
The Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.
