Atlanta, GA (2/10/2020)- Channel 2 reporter Justin Gray has been investigating drivers of Ford pickup trucks who have experienced what has been named the "death wobble." According to Gray, thousands of Ford pickup truck drivers have experienced their vehicle's steering wheel shaking hard, giving them no control of their car.
Drivers have posted numerous videos on YouTube, where they share their "death wobble" experiences.
“Prayer was all I had,” stated Derek Spann, a 2018 Ford F-250 driver, “Dear God, let me get through this.”
Owners of Ford F-350s and F-250s have experienced the wobble since 2005, resulting in a class-action lawsuit against the company.
“Safety was the main reason I bought this,” Spann said. “I could not control it. It was jerking all over the road.” Spann was driving on I-20 with his grandchildren when his truck started wobbling so severely that he stopped in the middle of the highway.
Spann claimed that he took his truck into the Ford dealership five different times, getting multiple parts replaced. However, the wobbling always returned after a few months.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration found that Spann was not the only person experiencing the “death wobble” — there are more than 1,200 complaints about the Ford wobble on the website.
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Ford on behalf of F-250 and F-350 owners in the Southern District of California. Due to the pending lawsuit, Ford declined to comment when asked by Gray.
