AUSTELL, GA (2/20/2020) – A Hiram resident died Wednesday afternoon after losing control of his truck and crashing into an apartment complex in Austell. The accident occurred at around 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Riverside Parkway and Factory Shoals Road.
The Cobb County Police Department states that Joseph T. Gilbert, 47, was driving a yellow box truck east on Riverside Parkway when he collided with two signs in the median.
The impact caused the vehicle to crash through the fence of a Kingsley Village apartment complex and run into a tree. Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
It took responders around four hours to get the vehicle out from the tree, causing significant traffic delays near the intersection.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. Anyone with information about the crash should call investigators at 770-499-3987.
