GILMER COUNTY, GA (6/3/2020) – A teen in North Georgia is in police custody after causing a single-car wreck that left two of his passengers injured and one dead on Sunday night. The crash happened around 10:00 p.m. on Georgia 282.
Georgia State Patrol says that 19-year-old Max Evans lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and hit a tree. His passengers were then ejected from the vehicle. When emergency responders arrived, the front passenger Patrick Spagnola, 19, was pronounced dead.
The other two passengers, 16-year-old Cloey Essay and 18-year-old Jessica Mae Elmore were injured and taken to Erlanger Hospital and Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Their condition is currently unknown.
Evans is being charged with DUI, first-degree homicide using a vehicle, two counts of serious injury using a vehicle, failure to maintain lane, distracted driving, and reckless driving. He is currently held at the Gilmer County Jail on a $19,000 bond.
