COBB COUNTY, GA (2/21/2020) — A 61-year-old grandfather died in a crash on Friday night in east Cobb County. The collision occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the intersection of Powers Road and Johnson Ferry Road just 100 yards from the victim’s home.
According to Cobb County police, Rob Higginbotham, 61, was turning left onto Powers Road when his 2011 Mercedes SL550 was hit by a white 2010 Mercedes C300 heading south. Higginbotham’s daughter, Mary Smith, stated that the impact sent her father’s car across the street and ejected him from the vehicle. Higginbotham died at the scene.
The 19-year-old driver of the Mercedes sedan was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital immediately after the accident with non-life-threatening injuries. His name has not yet been released to the public.
The Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is currently investigating the cause of the accident. It is unknown if charges are expected.
